IX(B) Squadron Association was represented and mentioned on BBC 1 on 7 August 2013, when the BBC aired “Who do you think you are?” programme about the actress Minnie Driver.
Minnie Driver’s father was IX(B) Squadron’s Aircraftman Charles Driver, who was one of the first Gunners to receive a DFM in WW2.
92 year old Association member and former RAF Honington IX(B) Squadron tyre and brake fitter, Mr Derrick Allaway was shown on the programme chatting (and cuddling) Minnie Driver. Derrick is probably the only living person to remember Charles Driver and Minnie clearly enjoyed chatting to him.
Derrick was whisked off to Weybridge by the production company.
